Social Ostracism in the workplace
Social ostracism is also a growing serious problem in the workplace. It is a just another form of workplace bullying. Social ostracism involves outright ridicule, often openly in the presence of other employees, or outright verbal and mental abuse, which happens on a daily basis.
The employee may be the victim of an all-out attack on their character and good name. The ostraciser(s) may even carry on a ’smear campaign’ in which the individual is unrelentingly attacked without letup in their workplace bullying campaign. This, of course, can cause extreme emotional distress, which can be also physically detrimental to the employee. The ostraciser(s) may cause other persons on the job to shun the individual, in turn warring against them for no apparent reason or due provocation.
Some have had an emotional breakdown because of such constant inhumane treatment; others have had even worse results, such as resorting to violence to deal with the aggressors or even to the point of suicide.
So public ostracism is nothing to take lightly. It can actually ruin or destroy a person’s life or cause them to destroy others in return in retaliation.
But such victims of such extreme abuse don’t have to put up with such abuse. There are organisations that are beginning to take strong measures to prevent these problems from happening to others in the future. An individual can actually go to jail for such a serious offence.
So if you’re a victim of workplace bullying in the form of public ostracism, worry not, there are alternatives that you can turn to for help to stop bullying at work it or face the consequences, which for them could be either termination or prison, depending on the severity of the case.
So stand up for your rights. Don’t allow yourself to be a victim of public ostracism!
